November babies are lucky enough to have two incredible birthstones, Topaz and Citrine. The yellow-gold color that is associated with November is displayed in both of the gemstones, and this is why November ends up with not one, but two birthstones! The two gemstones create the perfect combination, as topaz brings forth strength while citrine brings forth healing. With it’s glow and fiery intensity, topaz is believed to be associated with the Egyptian Sun God Ra.

Although the two gemstones are associated with the same month, the two are virtually opposite in meaning. Unlike the intense topaz gemstone, citrine is known primarily for it’s amazing healing qualities. It is even referred to as the “Healing Quartz”. The two gemstones also have an incredibly similar appearance, but they are quite different in composition. Just because they look the same certainly does not mean they are the same! The two stones were assigned as the November birthstones for a reason. The qualities of the two match up so well, and leave November babies with some of the best characteristics possible.

Composition of the November birthstones:

TOPAZ: Topaz is similar to a diamond in hardness, although topaz is much easier to break. It is mainly composed of fluorine and aluminium, and is a silicate mineral. Due to the extremely strong chemical bonds in the gemstone, topaz is actually among the hardest of silicates. You’ll find many different sizes of topaz, ranging from tiny crystals to massive rocks. Not only does topaz come in many shapes, but it actually comes in a variety of colors as well. The most valuable forms of topaz are a deep orange shade called Imperial Topaz.

CITRINE: Citrine is actually a variety of quartz, so it exhibits many different colors, ranging from yellow to brown. Natural citrine stones are very rare, since they are created when amethyst and smoked quartz are heat treated. Visually, they are very similar to the topaz. It can be almost impossible to detect a difference between the two stones by simply looking at them. Of course, the citrine associated with November is a lovely orange-yellow shade.

The difference: Although topaz and citrine are virtually identical when you look at them, they are different in composition, and as mentioned, topaz comes in a variety of colors. Citrine is much harder than topaz, but it is also more affordable than topaz. The two gemstones are visually very similar, but if you look closely enough, you may be able to distinguish them. Citrine tends to be yellower, and topaz has a very subtle pink tone to it sometimes.

Meaning of the November birthstones:

TOPAZ: Topaz is associated with qualities like strength, determination, and resilience. The gemstone is said to enhance spirituality, and to promote wisdom throughout life. Topaz was often worn by many royals, as it symbolized luxury and protected wearers from evil and greed. Individuals would wear the stone to ensure that they remained humble, yet strong. Topaz strengthens your willpower. Not only is topaz full of meaning, but it’s actually said to have many healing qualities. Topaz is said to aid with blood disorders, poor appetite, tuberculosis, and many other illnesses. All the more reason to purchase your birthstone if it’s Topaz; there are so many wonderful benefits!

CITRINE: Citrine may appear similar to topaz, but it actually has quite a different meaning. Lucky for November babies, they are some of the best qualities because of their two versatile birthstones. Citrine is known as one of the “good energy” birthstones, because it promotes positivity and good fortune. It has been called by many the “success stone”, as those born in November are destined for success. Citrine is used to combat negative energy, because it breaks up the bad energy. If you’re feeling down or unhappy, citrine will help ward off that negative energy.

Similarities between topaz and citrine

There are many differences between the two birthstones of November, however, they are also similar in a few key ways. As mentioned earlier, the stones do have a similar appearance, although their composition differs. Along with this, topaz and citrine are both known for their physical healing qualities. In crystal healing, both stones are used to aid in a variety of illnesses. Citrine is said to remove toxins and aid with overcoming drug and alcohol addiction. Topaz aids with poor appetite and a variety of blood disorders. Citrine also aids in a few physical illnesses as well, such as diabetes and fibromyalgia.

November babies: make sure to go purchase some jewelry made with your birthstones! You are protected by topaz and citrine since they are associated with your birth month, and wearing the gemstones will allow you to feel all the benefits of being born in the month of November.
